Where Do You See Yourself – Journal Prompt

Posted by

Yesterday we looked at the road not taken. Today, we look at the road ahead. Where do you see yourself in a year? In five years? In ten? These are classic interview questions, but they are also great questions for setting goals and roadmapping your your life.

There is a great adage I’ve heard – we regularly overestimate what we can get done in a day but underestimate what we can get done in a year. It is so easy to overpack our days, try to jam too much in. Our todo lists get longer and longer. So, I am not going to ask you to make huge changes. Instead, I want you to think about small steps you can take every day to take you to where you see yourself.

Today’s Journal Prompt for January’s Writing Challenge:

Where would you like to see yourself in a year? In five years? In 10?

What small step can you take today towards those goals?

Where would you like to see yourself in a year? In five years? In 10?

To tackle this journal prompt, I am going to work backwards. Let’s start with where I would like to be in 10 years. At that time I will be 56.

The biggest change that I would like to like to see is GRLife fully blossom and grow as a business. I want to see it to self sustaining and actively helping more people.

In the last two years I have made extraordinary strides with my company. I’ve filed all the paperwork, hired lawyers, opened bank accounts, built a brand. But it is still a fledgling. If I can make roughly the same amount of progress I have so far, then I feel like I am in good shape. I see myself taking this business to the next level, but I think it will take more time.

What small step can you take today towards those goals?

They way I see it, there are two main things I need to do. One is that I need to focus on the business every day. I tend to go in waves. Some months I am on fire and working hard. Other months I get bogged down, and progress is slow. That is going to happen. However, if I can make even a tiny bit of progress during those slow times, that still moves me further down the path than if I do nothing at all.

And two, I need to pour mental energy into GRLife. While that sounds like the same as the first, isn’t really. In the paragraph above, I am talking about the day to day activities of starting and marketing a business. In this I mean putting my love and desires out into the universe. When you do that you become more attuned to opportunities and possibilities. You see things in a new way.

Today’s Post Was Late

I apologize for that! I’ve been trying to post in the mornings, but this weekend I am running a bit behind. But that’s okay. The point is to write every day, and that is what I am doing. How about you. How is your writing coming?
