One Morning Habit

I have been playing with a new habit for a few weeks now and I thought I would share. It’s pretty simple – I drink a glass of water every morning right when I wake up. I’m in bed, the alarm goes off, I turn on the light and reach for the glass (which I filled up the night before.)

The idea is fairly simple. When we sleep we lose a fair amount of hydration due to sweat and having to get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. So, when you wake up, you are likely to be a bit dehydrated. So, I have a big glass of water to get the day started right.

I have found that it has helped in a couple of ways. One thing is that I moved my morning medications from the kitchen to the bedroom. That way when I drink my morning water, I take them at the same time. It keeps me from forgetting anything. I also have a routine of getting up, getting the dogs fed and walked before I eat breakfast myself. This means that I am up for about an hour before I sit down to eat. That big cup of water in the morning helps tide me over.

It’s a small thing, but I like the way it sets up my day. What daily habit do you do every day?
