Starting My Business – GRLife Coming to Life

It’s starting to happen! It’s hard to express how happy this is all making me. GRLife is starting as its own company. I am a proud owner of my very own business name.

Yesterday I went down to the Kent County Clerk office and registered GRLife as my business name. I have never been in that building before. What a great space! I love Grand Rapids, and it was cool to see the big Grand Rapids mural and the huge map of the city. I think the last time it was updated was several years ago though, and a lot has changed since then!

The Office of the County Clerk office is on the first floor. It is lined with huge windows that all look out on Calder Plaza and the Calder sculpture. There is a long marble counter that feels like it was from a different age. A gentleman took my registration form and went to make sure my business name could be mine. I held my breath and crossed my fingers. I had checked it two days ago, but a lot can happen in that time.

This is, of course, a very small step. I know there is still a ton to do. I am taking online and in-person courses, I’m watching webinars, reading books and websites and… basically keeping busy all the time. I am working on developing a logo and of course, building out this website.

But for now, I am just thrilled to own the name (and shocked that someone didn’t have it already.) I explained to a friend recently that it feels like I have my nest built now I am warming that egg. Inside is a fledgling bird waiting to hatch. I am going to do everything in my power to help it grow, be strong and successful.
