My love of great stories stems from childhood. My mother was an elementary school teacher and she taught me to read early. I am grateful to her for always encouraging me to spend time with books and art supplies; it was a big part of what made me into the person I am today.
I was talking with a new acquaintance recently and my passion for storytelling came up. They asked my preference – true stories or fiction. I told them it doesn’t matter, the important thing is that the mind is engaged and the imagination ignited. It needs to draw me in and make me want to know more. The medium can be fluid as well: novels, magazines, Tweets, Facebook posts, video clips, illustrations, blogs, song lyrics, even advertisements can all tell great stories. One of my favorites is the Six Word Stories, which tell so much in so little.
We are so fortunate to live in an age where anyone can be a writer, an author, a teller of tales. It is my goal to help make that happen – to help others tell their stories.
